The Blackening (June 16, 2023)

Part parody, part horror film, The Blackening will have you laughing out loud as much as you’re yelling and screaming at the screen. The tagline, “We can’t all die first,” is a clever nod toward the familiar expectation that the black character in a horror flick is often among the first to fall victim and never lives until the end.

The Blackening follows a group of black friends on a weekend getaway to a cabin on Juneteenth. They soon discover they’re trapped with a twisted killer interested in playing a deadly cat-and-mouse game of question and answers.  

Spider-Man: Across the Spider-Verse (June 2, 2023)

Continuing the acclaimed Spider-Verse series that won Best Animated Feature Film in 2018, Miles Morales makes his triumphant return.

After a joyful reunion with Gwen Stacy, everyone’s friendly neighborhood Spider-Man finds himself thrust into a journey across the Spider-verse. Here, he encounters a formidable group of Spider-People dedicated to safeguarding the existence of their worlds.

However, a new threat emerges, and disagreements arise on how to confront it. Miles must redefine his understanding of heroism and protect the ones he holds dear.  

The Little Mermaid (May 26, 2023)

Directed by Rob Marshall, this live-action version of Disney’s cherished animated musical tells the tale of Ariel, a captivating young mermaid and the youngest and most rebellious daughter of King Triton. Ariel yearns to learn about the world beyond the sea.

While visiting the surface, she falls in love with the charming Prince Eric despite it being forbidden. Determined to follow her heart, Ariel strikes a deal with the sinister sea witch, Ursula, which grants her the opportunity to experience life on land. However, this decision risks her life and her father’s reign.

Chevalier (April 7, 2023)

This cinematic marvel is inspired by the awe-inspiring true, yet widely unknown, tale of Joseph Bologne, Chevalier de Saint-Georges. Bologne, born as the illegitimate child of a French plantation owner and an enslaved African, achieves remarkable triumphs against all odds for a black man within French society.

Portrayed by Kelvin Harrison Jr. in a stunning performance, he soars as a renowned violinist-composer and an exceptional fencer. Amidst his remarkable journey, he engages in a disastrous romance and experiences a falling out with Marie Antoinette (played by Lucy Boynton) and her court.  

Luther: The Fallen Sun (March 11, 2023)

This gripping crime and drama film, starring Idris Elba and Cynthia Erivo, revolves around a horrifying serial killer who wreaks havoc in London as brilliant detective John Luther languishes in prison, plagued by his failure to apprehend a taunting cyber psychopath.

Determined to finish the job at any cost, Luther breaks out of prison, setting off a thrilling chase. As a fugitive,  no longer bound by the constraints of the law, Luther becomes a relentless force, driven, brilliant, and able to dismantle anything in his path.  

Creed III (March 3, 2023)

Michael B. Jordan makes his directorial debut and stars as Adonis Creed in this third installment of the popular franchise. Creed III continues the storyline with Adonis Creed achieving great success in both his professional boxing career and personal life.

When his childhood friend Damian, played by Jonathan Majors, makes a comeback after a lengthy prison sentence, he’s determined to prove himself in the ring once again. This fight between former friends goes beyond a simple physical match. While Adonis must risk his future, Damian has nothing to lose.

Rye Lane (March 17, 2023)

This heart-warming romantic comedy, directed by up-and-coming filmmaker Raine Allen-Miller, follows the journey of Yas and Dom, played by Vivian Oparah (known for Class and The Rebel) and David Jonsson (featured in Industry and Deep State).

Both in their twenties, Yas and Dom find solace in one another after experiencing difficult break-ups. Set against the vibrant backdrop of South London, their eventful day becomes a catalyst for healing and potentially reigniting their belief in love.

We Have a Ghost (February 24, 2023)

This Netflix film features Kevin, whose life takes an unexpected turn when he discovers a ghost named Ernest haunting the attic of his new home. Although Ernest attempts to be scary, Kevin befriends him.

After a viral post, Kevin’s newfound spectral acquaintance propels him into internet stardom. However, as they embark on a daring quest to unravel the enigma shrouding Ernest’s history, the duo unwittingly draws the attention of the CIA, making themselves prime targets.

Missing (January 26, 2023)

When June discovers her mother has gone missing while on vacation in Colombia with her new boyfriend, her efforts to find answers are repeatedly obstructed. Stranded in Los Angeles, June relies on her resourcefulness and tech-savvy in a desperate attempt to locate her mother before it’s too late.

Yet, as she delves deeper into her digital investigation, she encounters more puzzling inquiries rather than resolving the mystery. As June uncovers startling revelations about her mom, she realizes she never truly knew her.

House Party (January 13, 2023)

In this comedy, Damon and Kevin are two best friends who aspire to be successful club promoters. However, they’re on the verge of losing their homes.

To solve their problems, they plan to throw an extraordinary party at LeBron James’ luxurious mansion, where they had previously worked as house cleaners before getting fired. Hoping this event will bring them the fortune they need for a better life, things get a little crazy.
